Hello everyone, this time I want to introduce you to the new version of maps.ovi.com which went live today. The page looks more pleasing to the eye and Search is more highlighted on the page. It is also now the hub for everything location related – be it maps for web or mobile, and of course 3D Maps, a favorite of us all. The highlight among this release, however, is a new feature that we are introducing.
Starting from today, we have public transport Directions in maps.ovi.com, along with walk and drive Directions. We are debuting the service currently for New York City, but will be covering more locations and countries in the future.
This means maps.ovi.com will help you to travel around New York via their famed public transport system. I have never been to New York, so when trying out the site I chose Greenwich village and Times Square, the lead stars of many movies, novels and serials. You can click on the image here and see the routing, or head over to maps.ovi.com and try out the service yourself.
A particularly nifty feature of the public transport routing is the approximate time during each stage of our transport. It is also tells us how many stops need to be covered before we step out of the bus, on which side our destination is, and the various modes of transportation that we will be using.
Given that we have so many exciting things being added to our location offering, we created and showed off this video in the recently concluded Where 2.0 in Santa Clara. Here is the video for the rest of us who could not be there.
