What are Ovi People doing on their holidays? Part deux

Last week we revealed our Ovi People-spinoff series, simply called “What are Ovi People doing on their holidays?” (since, you know, it’s summer now and even Ovi People have summer holidays Last week I did mini-interviews with Antti and our most recent interviewee Tiina, and this week I got a chance to talk to our very first interviewee Michiel and Emily from good ol’ Tampere. Like last week, the three simple questions I asked all interviewees were:

1. What are you planning on doing on your holidays this year?

2. What is your best way of spending time if it’s raining outside? And what about if it’s sunny outside?

3. What is your favourite “summer food”?

Let’s see how our Dutch and American enforcements in Finland are spending their well-earned holidays!

Michiel:

1. I’ll be visiting my family and friends in Holland. I just moved from New York to Finland (and also had a baby just a while ago!), so it’s time to show our little one my home country!

2. If it’s really raining outside, the one thing I like to do is read books. And, if it happens to be sunny, then I’m usually outside taking photos!

3. My favourite summer food are fresh, Finnish strawberries (they are actually really nice, not these water strawberries you might find somewhere else) and green peas.

Emily:

1. I was in Arkansas and Louisiana (N’awlins!) visiting family, going to weddings, graduations, etc. in May, so 3 weeks have been spent already. Oh no. The rest of the time off will be in Finland. We are going to the opera festival in Savonlinna and then to our friends’ summer cottage on the lake in Suonenjoki.

2. If it is raining, we will go see movies or go visit friends and hang out at their place. Maybe eat, drink some wine, do a little Sing Star. If it is sunny, we will sit outside to eat and drink some wine. We will also play lots of tennis on the clay courts. If the weather is sunny, it doesn’t matter what you do as long as it is outside - it can be walking, biking, sleeping, eating, reading a book, just sitting, whatever. We have such long, dark winters in Finland that when the sun shines, you just do anything you can outside.

3. Well, I have to say Finnish berries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries. They just are so natural and taste great here. Suonenjoki is a big strawberry producing village in Finland, so I wil definitely eat strawberries while I am there. I also enjoy going to the farmers’ markets in town to get new potatoes, carrots and onions. Just about any vegetable tastes better in the summer.
